The Consistently Inconsistent nature of Krtatom: Why there is so much variance in effects from the same plant.

Im sure that we all know by now, the Kratom strains coming out of Indonesia are not actually genetic varietals (strains). Nor are they representative of the geographical origin of the leaf. It's all just a name and they are all just blends of the few types of Kratom as mentioned in this articles

Indonesia being a developing country with very primitive agriculture, has a system of farming Kratom that is very unusual and part of the reason why there is much mis-information , so many strains and so many inconsistencies. The farmers do not process and export direct to overseas companies like us vendors. Farmers, are very non tech savvy and uneducated. They sell the leaves unprocessed to "traders", or "processors". It is up  to these processors to create the magic by making blends.

The main problem with Indonesian Kratom is it's blended by hand, which is not a problem when mixing small batches. But, blending larger batches by hand is very difficult, and often leads to poorly mixed batches. This often leads to hot and cold spots within a batch. This phenomenon of hit and miss is what most people call "biological differences among people" which supposedly causes different effects for some people, but not for others. This writer will argue that in small batches, all Kratom comes out potent simply because it is mixed well. As we all know, when vendors start getting too big their quality suffers.

Some of the smaller Traders generally purchase their leaf from processors who have already dried and milled the leaf. They simply mix it and name it a strain.  There are also the small batch traders who purchase directly from the farmer and do the processing themselves. These traders traditionally have the best leaf even though they may be procuring from the same farm as the bigger exporters.

Why is this the case?

It's all in the art of the mix.
The other major problem with Indonesian "Traders" is that they don't take Kratom. It's a predominantly Muslim country and Muslims can't take Kratom, as it is considered a drug. This is who's mixing our stuff based on some random recipe. If they were to try it, they could catch all the problems. But, they have no clue how their mix came out until it gets to the states.

Fast strains are the hardest to come by and the hardest to predict as a variable in the Kratom effects equation. It seems the best predictor to whether the leaf is fast or not is the age. Several farmers, who actually take it, told me that the older the leaf the faster it is. It does make some sense that a mature leaf would have more alkaloids, including ones responsible for stimulation than an underdeveloped leaf. What's odd is that there is research showing that the young leaves, the canopy leaves, have an alkaloid profile that has a higher concentration of several alkaloids mainly Mitragynine. But, the only place it's around is Thailand, or as far as this writer could tell. All of the various Alkaloid profiles ("strains") out there are just a blend of leaf dried in the sun, and in the shade.
